. and dan lothian is joining me live from the white house with that. so the president's not at the white house prepping. >> reporter: nope. >> where is he doing his debate prep, who with, and what do we know about it? >> reporter: that's right. well, the president is in nevada, which is an important battleground state as you know. with a large number of hispanic voters. last night the president held a grass roots event there campaign event, but spending as you pointed out much of the time over the next couple of days preparing for the first debate. the campaign not giving a lot of details about what the president is doing to prepare for the debate, what they are doing, though, is lowering expectations or pointing out that the president has not had a lot of time to practice because he's very busy with his day job and with a lot of the issues that have been popping up in the middle east region. but in addition to that, they talk about how mitt romney has had a lot of time to prepare not only just practicing, but also with the primary season he was able to prepare with debates there. even t

as many as 1500 pastors across the country would take part today. dan gilgoff joins us from washington to tell us more about what's happening here. dan, who is behind this, and what causes a candidate to be defined as "unbiblical" say some of the pastors? >> there's a conservative evangelical group called alliance defending freedom that organized the event today. what's really kind of incredible about it is this the third year they are challenging pastors to speak out for or against political candidates. what started a few dozen churches participated. this year today there were 1400 pastors who say they are participating. of course, the other big thing about this year that's different is there's a presidential election going on. so that the consequences of a mass number of preachers making political endorsements are, of course, a lot more dramatic because the white house is hanging in the balance. >> is this considered, you know, a case of religious principle or a political statement being made? >> i think it depends where you sit, because for the pastors who are participating in today

, and they need to really ramp up that mobile monday advertietizm. >> dan, before we let you go, what is the most recent number -- we keep looking at comscore results from a month ago, but is there something that would tell us that it's finding its legs? >> i think there is. there isn't a lot of hard data. the other thing i think is interesting is they're talking more aggressively about monetization. they talked about gifts. mark talked about entering the search business which would double the market opportunity. so they're clearly now focused on revenues, whereas before, i don't think so they were as focused on revenues. mark said in his ipo letter, i don't wake up every day thinking about how to make money. now he's talking about doing that every single day. i think that's interesting. but i think the other thing is to keep in mind for an investor is this will take a year, maybe more, maybe a little bit less before we really see it hitting the income statements. i don't think that investors should be looking for an immediate reacceleration of revenues. i think that's the thing to watch out for.

correspondent for "the washington post." dan. dan, i will begin with you. you guys have the poll of the day that show this split between where the race is nationally and where it is in the swing states. why do you think there's such a wide gap? that's a big gap. >> it is a big gap, chuck. the -- you know, the margin of error on that swing state sample is bigger. >> fair enough. >> and so that 11 points could be less than that. >> but has this been a pattern? >> you know, the swing state moves a little more dramatically because it's a small sample, but i think everything we even seen in the battleground states and individual polls shows president obama with pretty healthy leads, particularly in the big three, ohio, florida, and virginia. and that columbus dispatch poll, you know, nine points, we had it at -- >> seven or eight as well. >> and cbs had it at ten. more advertising, more campaigning, and think it's had an effect. >> it's funny. four years ago there were 15 states that barack obama and john mccain were advertising in. now it's down to nine. you know, so you're getting same amount

line by lloyd benson, it was in the vice presidential campaign where he said to dan quayle, i knew jack kennedy, and you're no jack kennedy. that line was said by the losing side of that campaign. no one from benson world jumped forward to say hey, i wrote that for him. there was none of that. there was no leaking like that. >> you know, look. the best big knockout punches, that wasn't really a knockout punch. dan quayle ended up punching himself in the face. a great line that comes out in the debate are the ones that seem to be unscripted that no one has tell graphed in advance. the polls have been tightening. romney is going to get some elevation just by standing on stage next to barack obama. if he ends up putting a performance that is not zinger filled, that contrasts with our expectations and ends up looking pretty good uch there, there will be a lot of people who say he won the debate. >> mitt romney goes into the debate at a 52% favorability rating with voters. mitt romney at a 42% favorability rating. i don't know how he makes that up in 90 minutes of a debate. >> thank you for
